I don't often direct link to other blogs but wow!
Go and visit Obiboi right NOW and check out his last 5 or 6 sketches. I'd be wildly encouraged if just one of his ideas were to bear fruit.
Warning: (rant alert) And by the way, Hey Yamaha! If by some fluke you ever see this post. One of my favorite bikes on earth (that I currently own) is my trusty 2001 DR650 Suzuki ( and it's 15 year old technology!!). As a kid I used to annoy the Yamaha dealer by always oogling the early XT/TT500's. So if you won't do the decent thing and build a modern bike like Obiboi's version how about at least bringing over the 660 Tenere? Not every American want's to go trail riding on a 1200cc 650 lb BMW GS/Yamaha Super Tenere/KTM990. There are a LOT of us waiting patiently for an updated version of the big DR or KLR and you have it in your lineup but you won't share it... and to put it bluntly, you suck for it. Hell even the small BMW GS series is dated. You've completely surrendered the market to KTM which would be fine if I had a 40 inch inseam. The 650 market is ripe for reasonably priced updated competition. What the F### are you waiting for. I'll buy one already and I know I'm not alone. (rant off. back to our regularly scheduled posts..)

Finally. The New Triumph Tiger 800 XC.
Taking square aim at the BMW F800. If the price is right it should do very well indeed. This is the dirt version (obviously). A street version with 17's is on the way also.

The 2010 Honda CB1100 vs the Original Concept Bike. Is it just me or....?
When I look at the earlier concept bike I am really impressed. I don't have the vocabulary but it absoluty hits all the right notes for me personally. There must be something reeeealy subtle about it though because when I look at ....

... the production model I'm left just a little flat somehow. I'll leave it to the nuanced language of design experts to explain why exaclty, but for my eye the concept is a much superior looking bike. And I admit that I cant really see any siglificant difference to the "line" in either one. Must be the shocks/color/exhaust just leaving me wanting. I don't know.. shrug.

Update: looking at them one over the other now it's clear that the concept had a slightly longer lower leaner line than the production bike and that's not helped a lot by the graphics on the white bike.
Update #2: What they did to the exhaust should be criminal.
Update #3: The more I look the more I see. What did they do to the clean engine finning of the original??? Sheesh did they just pull the castings off the early 80's bikes?
I'll stop now.
Leave comments if you agree / disagree.

250 Nighthawk/Dream 50R "mashup". Fantastic Photoshop Work from reader Tanshanomi!
What an amazing Idea! I keep coming back to lok at this concept. This bike has ridiculous potential. I could just imagine a budget racing class for these similar to the vintage CB160's that have become so popular.
He writes:
I thought I would share a fun little 250 Nighthawk/Dream 50R mashup I created in Photoshop for your Motorcycle Picture of the Day website. Yes, it looks as if it has a hydraulic drum on the rear, and it is in desperate need of a front disk and 18" rear rim. But it makes the point that Honda's little 250 twin could be really cool looking in something a lot more fun than the Rebel cruiser and dowdy commuter bike Honda puts them in now.

Tularis Video! Maybe the coolest 2 stroke ever built.
I've personally seen this bike run at Daytona when it was just completed. It was entered to do some "Parade laps" in what was supposed to be a mellow few laps by "Past Champions". Well he whacked that bike wide open around the high banks and was just whailing it. The sound was unbelievable but sadly it had to be cut short as the carbon fiber fuel tank had developed a small crack and was leaking fuel so unfortunately he had to cut it short. This was around 2000 or 2001 and the bikes performance and potential was nothing short of jaw dropping.
